Villars + Gryon is situated at the start of the Rhone valley in the French speaking Canton of Vaud in Switzerland. The picturesque villages are a 12km climb above Aigle which is host to the headquarters of the UCI (Union Cycliste Internationale) or the governing body of international cycling.
By car Villars+Gryon is less than 1.5 hours from Geneva and 2.5hrs from Zurich airports. This area is also very easily accessed by the super efficient Swiss train system (Swiss Rail Link) with train access right into the heart of both Gryon and Villars, bikes are easily transported on nearly all train services.
Villars + Gryon has gained a reputation as a first class winter holiday destination and therefore has a full compliment of tourist and visitor services available to keen and passionate mountain bikers. There are numerous places to stay to cater for all budgets, from the Backpackers in Gryon to 5 Star Hotels in Villars, for those who prefer self catering both apartments and chalets are available year round on short term lets. Despite French being the native language in this area of Switzerland, English is widely spoken.
When it comes to food and beverage time, again there is plenty of choices of restaurants and cafés with a couple of great watering holes to stop at mid ride. Both Villars and Gryon have well stocked food stores for the self caterers.
For families and the non cycling partners and friends of the mountain bikers, Villars offers plenty of non cycling activities like bowling, golf, tennis, a swimming pool, hiking, yoga and massage. With the fantastic mountain transport system available the non MTB'ers can also experience the high peaks, abundant wildlife and endless views.
